We are excited to announce Fauna's native integration with Cloudflare Workers, enabling customers to connect and query a Fauna database from a Cloudflare Worker in just a few clicks. It is now even easier to deploy a distributed, fully serverless architecture to streamline operations, minimize overhead, and enhance global application performance leveraging Fauna as the operational database and Cloudflare Workers as the compute platform.
Visit the Fauna docs or Cloudflare docs to review the brief set-up guide.

Why Fauna + Cloudflare Workers

Performance, availability, and scalability are critical factors in building apps that meet the demands of modern businesses and consumers. Fauna and Cloudflare Workers eliminate the complexity traditionally associated with meeting these demands while ensuring low latency data operations across single-region, multi-region, or global deployments.
Here’s why the Fauna + Cloudflare Workers integration is a game-changer for developers building the next generation of applications.
1. Fully Serverless with Zero-Ops
Fauna’s fully serverless architecture takes care of sharding, scaling, and replication automatically, allowing developers to focus solely on building differentiated features, not managing infrastructure. Paired with Cloudflare Workers, which abstracts away the complexity of pushing powerful compute functions as close as possible to the end consumer, this combination ensures a truly serverless experience from the database to edge execution.
2. Efficient and Stateless Connectivity
Both Fauna and Cloudflare Workers are accessed as HTTPS APIs, ensuring efficient, stateless connectivity between your application’s logic and its data. This reduces overhead and makes it easier to build and scale applications without the need for persistent connections or complex networking configurations.
3. Automatic Distribution & Routing for High Availability & Low Latency
Cloudflare Workers is built on a global network across over 300 cities and 12,500 networks, ensuring that your application logic runs close to your users. Fauna automatically replicates data across regions with multi-active reads and writes (and the strongest level of consistency, while its intelligent routing ensures requests are always directed to the nearest replica automatically, delivering low-latency responses and superior user experiences across the globe.
4. Lightweight App Code with a Powerful Data Model
Using Fauna and Cloudflare Workers together enables customers to support both relational and document access patterns - while retaining the optionality to adjust dynamically as business requirements change. Fauna’s document-relational model stores data as JSON objects while retaining the powerful relational characteristics of traditional RDBMS’, such as joins, strong consistency, and schema enforcement. For Cloudflare Workers customers, this means keeping their code lightweight and performant without sacrificing robust data operations.

Use Cases & Joint Customer Success

Modern applications require a foundation that can handle diverse workloads, from e-commerce and gaming to generative AI, all while delivering low-latency experiences and supporting both semi-structured and structured data. Fauna and Cloudflare Workers are uniquely suited to meet these demands, and joint customers like Connexin, Insights.gg, and SiteGPT have already seen the benefits.
Connexin, a leader in smart city services, leverages Fauna and Cloudflare Workers to deliver reliable, low-latency broadband services to thousands of users. As Connexin’s needs evolved, Fauna’s ability to dynamically support its application’s performance at scale became a key factor in maintaining its world-class service.
“Everything in our stack is serverless and globally distributed by default,” explained Cameron Bell, Head of Software, Systems, & Data at Connexin. “An API-driven database is very important for applications where much of the infrastructure – like Cloudflare Workers – is connectionless and requires solutions that can meet the demands of real-time, operational data. The serverless attributes of Cloudflare and Fauna mean we can genuinely do more, faster.”
Insights.gg, a gaming platform with over 100k global daily active users, also benefits from the Fauna + Cloudflare Workers combination. Fauna’s auto-distribution and flexible data model, paired with Cloudflare’s Edge network, has allowed Insights.gg to optimize data performance and deliver a smooth gaming experience to users around the world - reducing latency by 70% for their customers following a PostgreSQL & CockroachDB migration.
Meanwhile, SiteGPT adopted Fauna and Cloudflare Workers to support its rapidly scaling generative AI chat application for thousands of global customers. Founder Bhanu Pchipulusu shared, “Fauna naturally fits into our broader distributed architecture with Cloudflare Workers and Pinecone - together they deliver a superior user experience to our customers with no engineering operations needed as our customer base grows across regions.”
